history

In 1826, the Westfalia ironworks was the first industrial company to be founded in Lünen, the company building itself dates from around 1870.

The architectural style elements of corner and stair towers, arched windows and facade decorations based on the Romanesque and palace or castle architecture were typical of the construction period. They should illustrate the monumentality and thus the importance of the emerging industrial companies. Cast iron columns support the ceiling in the dining room, a richly ornamented iron staircase leads to the upper floor.

Current condition

The building has been a listed building since 1990 and was restored on the west side with a new wall in 2008. It belongs to the route of industrial culture, themed route industrial culture on the Lippe . After a long period of vacancy, the canteen was acquired by Bucyrus in early 2011 . The company, which belongs to Caterpillar, has had its European headquarters on the adjacent site since the takeover of Deutsche Bergbau Technik in 2007.
