The roof tiles Nelskamp GmbH in 1926 by the four brothers Nelskamp in Overbeck (Schermbeck) founded. Today, the roof tile works Nelskamp are one of the nationwide important manufacturers and suppliers of roof tiles , concrete roof tiles and energy roofs, as well as roof accessories and roof decorations. Production takes place at six locations. The company headquarters are in Schermbeck .

history

founding

The factory founder Heinrich (1905-1964), Karl (1906-1981), Johann (1907-1944) and Hubert Nelskamp (1911-1986) originate from an old Ziegler family of Finkenberg, a ridge at Dingden , according to Alder (Raesfeld) moved . Her grandfather, Johann Heinrich Nelskamp (1842-1892), he was also called "Finkenberg", worked in the Schermbeck brickworks JB Prinz und Sohn zu Schermbeck b. Wesel , from 1902 Schermbecker Thon & Falzziegelwerke AG , up to brick master, which roughly equates to today's position of authorized signatory. His son, Johann Nelskamp (1875–1924), the father of the company's founders, also a master bricklayer in the same factory, encouraged his children to be self-employed at an early age. "Once you've got a press, then you go better." Heinrich Nelskamp, the oldest of the four brothers, attended the bricklaying school in Zwickau. This technical school for the training of master distillers and technicians for the brick factory was considered the best known in the pre-war period. After exploring the soil themselves, the Nelskamp brothers finally bought a plot of land with abundant clay deposits in Overbeck von Brüggemann . In 1926 Falzziegelwerke Nelskamp GmbH was entered in the commercial register and in 1927 official approval for the construction of a roof interlocking tile plant in the community of Schermbeck was granted. Production began under the most difficult of circumstances: the clay was mined with a spade, the carts were initially pushed into the factory by hand, and coal or finished bricks were transported to and from the Schermbeck train station on partially unpaved roads. The stones for the construction of the company building and the first "Kassel ovens" were still burned in the kiln . The first revolver press was sold by a Dutch machine manufacturer with the words: “Pay the press when you have earned the money with it.” As early as 1933, approval was given for the construction of a modern partial ring kiln for burning interlocking tiles . Deliveries were made to East Frisia by tractor and trailer .

expansion

The production capacity in Overbeck was no longer sufficient in the 1930s and the expansion phase began. In Hünxe -Gartrop, Baron Nagell bought extensive clay mining rights. The first new plant on the Lippe side canal in Hünxe-Gartrop, which is conveniently located for ship transport, did not go into operation due to the war. It was blown up and used as filling material for the canal crossing. From 1948 until the closure in 1970 in the course of the takeover of Thon & Falzziegelwerke AG , double-seam roof tiles were produced at the Hünxe-Gartrop location.

In 1953, with the purchase of a brickworks in Breitscheid (Ratingen) and renovation due to the high demand resulting from the post-war era, the company started producing perforated bricks . Production ended at this location in 2002.

In 1953, Monier Braas GmbH began producing the “Frankfurter Pfanne” concrete roof tile, a product that was no longer made from clay, but from sand, cement, water and color pigments in order to meet the extremely high demand for roof coverings. In the same year, the Nelskamp brothers also bought an extrusion line for the continuous production of concrete roof tiles. The system was built in Hünxe-Gartrop and the concrete roof tile was named "Finkenberger Pfanne", based on the original origins of the vom Finkenberg family in Dingden. From 1958 until the fire at the plant in 1988, perforated bricks were also produced at the Schermbeck-Gartrop site. The demand for concrete roof tiles in the North German and Dutch sales area was covered from 1966 to 2001 from the newly built production facility in Leer / East Friesland . In 1970, the roof tile production capacity was increased fivefold with the purchase of Schermbecker Thon & Falzziegel AG , brick production at the technically obsolete locations Overbeck and Hünxe-Gartrop was discontinued and the company headquarters relocated to the new production facility. Finkenberger pans have been supplied to southern Germany since 1975 primarily from the Dieburg location . From 1984 to 1990 roof tiles were produced in Obergartzem using the "hanging firing technique". However, this production method did not catch on.

The Unsleben production facility with an annual capacity of around 20 million roof tiles was added in 1985. A production facility for the Finkenberger pan was built in 1991 in Wandlitz and one for roof tiles in Groß Ammensleben, primarily for the newly added eastern sales markets after reunification .

Managing directors

The company is still family-owned. On the anniversary of the death of the respective father, their sons Karl-Heinrich Nelskamp (born 1945) and Heiner Nelskamp (born 1952) joined the management. The former was followed in 2014 by his son Ulrich Nelskamp (born 1974). Another managing director from the family was Heinrich Wenger from 1990 to 2000 and Andreas Liesenklas (born 1965) has been since January 1, 2009.

Roof tiles

The roof tiles consist of sand, cement, water and color pigments. A smooth, low-pore surface prevents coarser dirt particles from sticking and maintains a clean roof appearance. Air pollutants can be broken down according to the principle of photocatalysis : nanoparticles of titanium dioxide incorporated into the micro-concrete surface catalyze the conversion of nitrogen oxides to nitrate by means of UV light.

Roof tiles

Clay roof tiles are fired at approx. 1000 ° C, which gives them their hardness and structure.

Energy roofs

With the photovoltaic system MS 5 PV , the solar modules are integrated into the roof.
The SolarPowerpack contains aluminum full-surface solar collectors that are optically adapted to the Dachstein, in conjunction with a heat pump for heating and hot water.
2Power photovoltaics and MS 5 2Power ( solar thermal ) is a double system for the simultaneous generation of electricity and heating; Under the upper photovoltaic layer there is a liquid-flow solar thermal layer for absorbing solar thermal energy.

Roof stick

It is a fastening system pre-assembled on the roof tile for storm protection.
