Overbeck is a part of the community Schermbeck in the North Rhine-Westphalian district of Wesel .

Geographical location

Overbeck is five kilometers north of the core town of Schermbeck west of state road  607. The district is bounded in the west by Dusk Forest and Bricht , in the north by Alder , in the east by Altschermbeck and in the south by Schermbeck-Mitte. The entire local area is part of the Hohe Mark-Westmünsterland Nature Park . The nature reservesdam forest in the west and Lichtenhagen (belonging to both Overbeck and Bricht) in the southwest border on Overbeck.

history

The oldest brick and pottery production facility still in existence in Schermbeck , the Menting company, is located in Overbeck . It was built in 1822 for the production of field fire bricks . Clay roof tiles and drainage pipes have been manufactured since 1837 . The roof tile works in Nelskamp have been producing in the smallest district of Schermbeck since 1926 . Until the end of 1974 Overbeck was an independent municipality in the office of Schermbeck, Rees district . On January 1, 1975, as part of the reorganization in North Rhine-Westphalia, the municipalities of Schermbeck, Altschermbeck, Bricht, Damm, Dämmerwald, Gahlen, Overbeck and Weselerwald merged to form the municipality of Schermbeck. Part of the former community with 144 inhabitants at that time, who lived on 2.49 km 2 , was reclassified to Raesfeld .
