Marl-Loemühle Airport
Marl Airport in the NRW overview

The Marl-Loemühle airfield is a commercial airfield in Marl ( North Rhine-Westphalia ) with importance for the Marl / Recklinghausen area and the southern foothills of the Münsterland. Like the Dinslaken / Schwarze Heide airfield , it belongs to the route of industrial culture .

location

The airfield is located in the Marl district of Hüls , on the border with Recklinghausen. It is therefore exactly in the transition from the Ruhr Metropolis to the Münsterland . The motorway 43 with the nearby junction Marl-Sinsen / Marl-Süd and the federal highway 225 run not far from the landing site .

history

In 1959 the Motorfliegerclub Vest e. V. (MFC) of the cities of Marl and Recklinghausen founded the Verkehrslandeplatz Loemühle GmbH (VLP GmbH). The Recklinghausen district joined the GmbH as a further partner at the end of the same year. In 1980 the Motorfliegerclub sold its shares to the district, which, apart from small remnants, also acquired the shares in the towns of Marl and Recklinghausen. The stakes were transferred to Vestische Straßenbahnen GmbH in March 1988 . The share capital was most recently around € 1.24 million.

The future of the airfield in terms of maintaining the status quo, expansion or closure is a hot topic of discussion. At the beginning of 2004, the district council of the main owner of the Recklinghausen district decided to shut down. Due to growing resistance - also from the population - as well as open legal and financial questions, this shutdown was never carried out.

In June 2006 the district council passed the resolution not to settle the debts of the Verkehrslandeplatz Loemühle GmbH, which had accumulated again and again, so that bankruptcy had to be filed. The airfield was then privatized. The operator and owner from October 1, 2006 is the newly founded Flugplatz Loemühle GmbH. Partners are entrepreneurs and pilots who are interested in maintaining the airfield. The airfield has received approval for microlight aircraft since October 2007.

useful information

Since the late summer of 2003, the Marl-Loemühle airfield has also been the home of the German Chaos Aviation Team, and the R3 Club goes Airport Party has also been taking place at the airfield since 2005. The airfield also serves as the basis for aerial archaeological research by the Archaeological Institute of the Ruhr University Bochum . By the suicide of Jürgen Möllemann on 5 June 2003, the airfield gained nationwide notoriety. Since April 2016, "Christoph Bochum", a helicopter from the Johanniter Accident Aid , has been stationed in Marl.
