The airfield Plettenberg-Hüinghausen (ICAO-Code: EDKP) is a German special airfield in the Habbeler meadows near Hüinghausen between Plettenberg and Herscheid in the Sauerland . The airfield is classified as a special airfield and approved for aircraft up to 2000 kg.

history

Inspired by the success of the Wright brothers , the young Ernst E. Fastenrath decided to build a powered flying machine himself. Supported by his friend Willi Winterhoff, flight attempts were made in the Elsewiesen and Reblin between 1910 and 1912. The original engine from this period can be viewed at the airfield. The First World War and the post-war period resulted in a standstill that lasted for almost two decades.

In 1932, more than 100 gliding enthusiasts met at the Martin Luther School. 70 of these interested parties founded the flying group. Construction of two gliders began in the basement of a factory building in Holthausen . Work was carried out from morning to evening, as 41 of the 70 members were unemployed. The gliders were christened Erfa and Paiterdirk in October . A short time later, the first slides and air jumpers were made in the Elsewiesen and Habbel ropes. The one-year existence was celebrated on October 22, 1933 with a flight day on the Habbel, which was attended by 5000 spectators. As a special item on the program, the only 18-year-old Ilse Fastenrath landed with the Klemm 25 motorized aircraft . Another school glider was christened Anketrine .

In April 1937 the entire assets of the association were confiscated and in October 1937 the association was officially deleted from the association register.

On February 17, 1951, former glider pilots were invited to the founding meeting of the Gasthof Rüsing via an advertisement in the Süderländer Tageblatt . Just one month later, the first annual general meeting with board elections took place. Since the general flight ban had not yet been lifted, it was limited to model making and flying. On June 19, the Control Council Act No. 24 with regard to the ban on gliding was repealed: gliders could be built and flown again.

On March 8, 1952, the first glider, a type SG 38 school glider, arrived in Plettenberg. The flying home on Dingeringhauser Weg, also planned for March, celebrated its topping-out ceremony in September. School operations began in November and the first start took place from the Sundhelle with Heinrich Greis at the helm. Over 200 school flights had been completed by the end of the year. With the final completion of the flight home in 1953, over 10,000 hours of work had been done. After the property negotiations on the Wellin had been successfully concluded, flight operations could begin in autumn using a tow winch. With the conclusion of a long-term contract in 1955, flight operations were relocated to Habbelwiesen. The new hangar was inaugurated in the spring of 1958.

In 2017, the Plettenberg-Herscheid aviation group decided to build a new club house, which should strengthen and support the club life. The quality of the aeronautical training, especially the theory lessons, was also to be increased by a new training room. The construction project began in early 2018 with the dismantling of the old “canteen” and made rapid progress. Completion of the new building, which also includes a new outdoor facility, is planned for the end of 2019.

60 active aviators, supported by 70 passive members, practice air sports. The main sport is gliding.

Aircraft park

The aircraft fleet of Fliegergruppe Plettenberg-Herscheid currently includes six gliders ( Schleicher ASK 13 , Schleicher K 8 b , Schleicher Ka 6 E , Grob Twin II , Grob Astir CS , Rolladen Schneider LS 4 ), two ultralight aircraft ( B&F FK 9 and Comco Ikarus C42 ) and two powered aircraft ( Robin DR 400-180R, Piper PA- 18-95 Super Cub). The 180 hp DR 400 (4-seater) is mainly used for towing operations and the old-timer Piper PA-18 for travel flights to the near and far.

In addition to the club aircraft, three other private gliders, two powered aircraft and four microlight aircraft are stationed at this place.
