The Porta Westfalica airfield (also called Vennebeck airfield ) is a commercial airfield in Porta Westfalica ( Minden-Lübbecke district ). It is located both north and east of the Weser on the Weserbogen in an old, renatured gravel area. A few kilometers to the north rise the Wiehen and Weser mountains with Porta Westfalica in between , the name of which the airfield bears. Nearby cities are Bad Oeynhausen , around four kilometers to the southwest , Vlotho , seven kilometers to the south, and Minden, around ten kilometers to the north . Officially, the airfield is called the Porta Westfalica airfield (EDVY) . It has an 860 meter long asphalt runway and a 1000 meter long grass runway and is 45 meters above sea level. The airfield is mainly used by the aviation clubs around the porta.
history
The airfield was created after the Second World War for the headquarters of the British Rhine Army stationed in Bad Oeynhausen . At that time, Bad Oeynhausen was still preferred by the British as the “Herford solution” to the capital question of the British occupation zone , which provided for the British administration to be divided between the cities of Bad Oeynhausen, Minden, Herford, Bad Salzuflen and Bielefeld. It was given up in January 1946, the city of Bad Oeynhausen only opened to the civilian population again in 1953. The airfield was privatized and opened to civil aviation in 1952.
Conflict over expansion
Nowadays, the operating company tries to upgrade the airfield according to EU guidelines (JAR OPS 1 and 2). To this end, the city of Porta Westfalica approved the release of areas at a council meeting, with which additional land can be purchased so that the airport can meet the guidelines. This would also make it possible to station King Air 200 again , which flies for the Bad Oeynhausen Heart Center and is currently stationed at Vennebeck Airport at Bielefeld Airport due to the lack of conditions . In addition to this machine, there was another machine ( King Air 90 ) that flies for the companies Melitta and Porta Möbel , which could get an operating permit under these conditions. There should be no other exceptions for environmental reasons.
