The Oerlinghausen airfield, classified as a special airfield, is located in the Lippe district in East Westphalia-Lippe near the city of Bielefeld . With around 25,000 glider starts per year, Oerlinghausen is one of the largest glider airfields in the world. There are motor gliders , ultralight , motor and model airplanes , kites , paragliders and balloons . A total of 15 clubs are based at the airfield. In 1958 the German Gliding Championship took place here.
Info
The airfield Oerlinghausen is operated by the Flugplatzgemeinschaft eV Oerlinghausen, in short: FGOe, the amalgamation of the 15 air sports at the airfield Oerlinghausen, registered and recognized as non-profit. The FGOe has existed since 1952, and around 1000 members practice air sports in the member associations. There are more than 100 gliders stationed in Oerlinghausen.
The clubs are located in the entire Ostwestfalen-Lippe region.
The airfield Oerlinghausen was set down in the aviation concept of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia as a "priority airfield for gliding", it is the "state performance base for the sport of gliding" and through the association "gliding school", which carries out training and further education in fixed courses as an international air sports school, state performance center with federal use for air sports.
Around 50,000 aircraft movements are counted at Oerlinghausen Airport each year. During the flying season (March to October), take-offs take place on five separate winch towing points , plus glider take-offs in aircraft tow .
Motor gliders, microlight planes, kites, paragliders, model planes and hot air balloons contribute to achieving the above-mentioned movement figures, some light motor planes are also at home here.
The area used as an airfield is approx. 650,000 m² and is largely leased as state-owned property by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Approx. 80,000 m² are used as flight operations areas.
The Oerlinghausen airfield is a popular excursion destination in the region. Sightseeing flights can be carried out in the various air sports. A restaurant provides catering for the guests, and there is also sufficient parking space.
The gliding school based at the Oerlinghausen airfield carries out training for officer candidates to become glider pilots in cooperation with the Air Force officers' school.
