The Meschede-Schüren airfield is a traffic airfield in the Schüren district of the city of Meschede in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The glider and sport flying area is located above the Hennesees at an altitude of 438 m above sea level. NN .
history
In the 1920s it was recognized that the area near Meschede was suitable for gliding. On July 22, 1932, the "Sauerland Aviation Association" was founded, which organized a major flight day at Pentecost of the following year 1933. In 1934 the aircraft hangar, administration building and accommodation were built. In 1959 the airfield received the permit for powered aircraft up to 2 tons. In 1963 the airline Meschede-Schüren mbH was founded. Over the years runways have been renewed and lighting systems have been installed. The airport restaurant has a sun terrace and offers rooms for meetings, company outings and family celebrations. In 1999, Detlev Buck shot large parts of his film LiebesLuder , which premiered a year later.
The old glider pilot school from the 1930s was monument of the month in Westphalia-Lippe in August 2006 .
Flugplatzgesellschaft Meschede mbH is the operator of the airfield .
In June 2018, the Sauerland Historical Aviation Association was founded, which has set itself the task of collecting and documenting the history of the Meschede-Schüren airfield.
Sporting events
Every year in September, the two-seater competition "Dosi-Sauerland" in glider aerobatics takes place at the Meschede-Schüren airfield . In addition, twice a year the airfield is the venue for top-class automobile slalom events, which are carried out by the organizing group MSC Oberruhr eV in the ADAC / AMC Velmede eV in the DMV.
Accidents
Serious aircraft accidents have already occurred several times in Meschede airspace:
- 7/1999: LFZ Reims Avion F150M overturned after a false start
- 6/2014: Learjet collided with a fighter plane in the air
- 7/2015: Microlight bored into a grain field after uncontrolled flight movements
