Omnitrax
OmniTRAX is the name of the activities of the Pat Broe Group (Broe Group) in the field of transport and traffic. The stakes in the companies are held by various companies, including Omnitrax Holding and Omnitrax Inc. The company operates several railroad companies in the United States and Canada as well as the port of Churchill, Manitoba . In addition, there are services in the area of vehicle maintenance, freight forwarding, handling and storage.
history
In 1986 Pat Broe, owner of the Broe Group, acquired the Great Western Railway in Colorado from the bankrupt sugar manufacturer Great Western Sugar Company . This was the beginning of the group's expansion in the rail and transport sector. In the same year, the subsidiary Great Western Railway was founded in Oregon, which leased the 87-kilometer former Southern Pacific route between Lakeview and Alturas from Lake County from January 18, 1986. At the end of 1996, Omnitrax's lease was not renewed due to the low transport volume.
In May 1991 the Council Bluffs Railway was founded by the Broe subsidiary Great Western Railway Company of Iowa . This operated from that point on a 48-kilometer shunting route in Council Bluffs (Iowa) .
1991/1992 was the Chicago West Pullman Transportation with six railway companies ( Chicago, West Pullman and Southern Railroad , Manufacturers' Junction Railway , Newburgh and South Shore Railroad , Chicago Rail Link , Kansas Southwestern Railway . Wisconsin and Calumet Railroad , Georgia Woodlands Railroad ) adopted . The Wisconsin and Calumet Railroad was immediately sold on. Omnitrax was created from the merger of Chicago West Pullman Transportation and Broe company Railco Inc.
In 1992, around 1,600 km of railroad were acquired by the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad in Kansas . These formed the basis for the Central Kansas Railway which began operations on January 1, 1993,
The following year, operations began on the former 50-kilometer ATSF line between Panhandle and Borger in Texas as the Panhandle Northern Railroad . In 1994, the route network of the Great Western Railway in Colorado was expanded to include a connection to Fort Collins and in 1996 to Greeley.
In 1995, operations began on the Northern Ohio and Western Railway line leased from CSX . In 1997 Omnitrax acquired the Canadian companies Carlton Trail Railway , Hudson Bay Railway and the associated port of Churchill and the tank farm in Churchill. In 1998, operations began on the Okanagan Valley Railway . After the main customer closed his factory there, operations ceased in 2009.
In 2004 the Canadian Kettle Falls International Railway was taken over and CSX lines were leased by the Alabama and Tennessee River Railway and the Fulton County Railway . In the following year, the takeover of North American RailNet with the railway companies Georgia and Florida Railway , Illinois Railway and Nebraska Kansas Colorado Railway took place .
In 2011 the Stockton Terminal and Eastern Railroad and in 2014 the Sand Springs Railway and the Brownsville and Rio Grande International Railway were acquired. In 2015 the Peru Industrial Railroad was acquired by the city of Peru and in 2016 the Heart of Texas Railroad and continued to operate as the Central Texas & Colorado River Railway.
The subsidiary Quality Terminal Service (QTS) has been offering a wide variety of logistics services since 1994. Since 2004, shunting services have been offered in Haslet (Texas) under the name Alliance Terminal Railroad on behalf of the Omnitrax subsidiary "Quality Terminal Services". The company is not part of the Omnitrax Group.
On July 26, 2019, Omnitrax announced that an Omnitrax company will acquire Winchester & Western Railroad for $ 105 million from Covia Holdings Corporation . The change of ownership is expected to take place in the third quarter of 2019.
