Lake County is a county in the state of Oregon in the United States with 7,422 residents. The county seat is Lakeview .

The county covers an area of ​​21,648 square kilometers; of which 572 square kilometers (2.26 percent) are water.

history

The county was incorporated on October 24, 1874. The name goes back to the numerous lakes in its territory.

The county has a National Historic Landmark , Fort Rock Cave . 18 buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of July 13, 2018).

According to the 2000 census , the county had 7,422 people. There were 3,084 households and 2,152 families. The population density was less than 1 person per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 90.97% white, 0.13% African American, 2.37% Native American, 0.71% Asian, 0.13% residents from the Pacific island area and 3.19% from others ethnic groups; 2.48% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 5.44% of the population.

Of the 3,084 households, 29.00% had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 58.60% were married couples living together, 7.50% were single mothers. 30.20% were not families. 26.20% were single households and 11.10% had someone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size was 2.84 people.

For the entire county, the population was composed of 24.90% residents under 18 years of age, 5.10% between 18 and 24 years of age, 24.30% between 25 and 44 years of age, 28.10% between 45 and 64 years of age 17.70% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 100.50 males, for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 98.30 males.
