Union County is a county in the state of Oregon in the United States with 24,530 residents. The county seat is in La Grande .

history
The county was founded on October 14, 1864 and named after the states of the Union against the backdrop of the Civil War .

As of the 2000 census , the county had a population of 24,530. There were 9740 households and 6516 families. The population density was 5 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 94.29% white, 0.51% African American, 0.85% Native American, 0.85% Asian, 0.62% residents from the Pacific island area and 1.22% from others ethnic groups; 1.67% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 2.45% of the population.
Of the 9740 households, 30.00% had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 55.10% were married couples living together, 8.50% were single mothers. 33.10% were not families. 26.10% were single households and 10.80% had someone living there who was 65 years of age or over. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 2.94.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 24.60% of residents under 18 years of age, 12.10% between 18 and 24 years of age, 23.50% between 25 and 44 years of age, 25.00% between 45 and 64 years of age 14.70% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 95.10 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 92.40 males.
