Josephine County is a county in the state of Oregon in the United States . In 2000 75,726 people lived here, in 2005 it was 80,761 and in 2010 82,713. The county seat is Grants Pass .

history

The county was formed on June 22, 1856 and is named after Josephine Creek, whose name goes back to Josephine Rollins, the first American woman in the county.

The county had a population of 75,726 as of the 2000 census . There were 31,000 households and 21,359 families. The population density was 18 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 93.9% white, 0.27% African American, 1.25% Native American, 0.63% Asian, 0.11% residents from the Pacific island area and 1.17% from others ethnic groups; 2.68% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 4.26% of the population.

Of the 31,000 households, 26.9% had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 54.4% were married couples living together, 10.4% were single mothers. 31.1% were not families. 25.4% were single households and 12.1% had someone living there who was 65 years of age or over. The average household size was 2.41 and the average family size was 2.85.

For the entire county, the population was composed of 23.1% of residents under 18 years of age, 6.5% between 18 and 24 years of age, 23.2% between 25 and 44 years of age, 27.2% between 45 and 64 years of age 20.1% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 94.60 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 91.10 males.
