Klamath County is a county in the US state of Oregon . In 2000 63,775 people lived here, in 2005 there were 66,192. The county seat is Klamath Falls .

The county covers an area of ​​15,892 square kilometers; of which 496 square kilometers (9.12 percent) are water.

history

The county was incorporated on October 17, 1882. The name goes back to the Klamath Indian tribe .

There are two National Historic Landmarks in the county , the Crater Lake Superintendent's Residence and the Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge . 28 buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of June 13, 2018).

As of the 2000 census , the county had 63,775 people. There were 25,205 households and 17,290 families. The population density was 4 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 87.33% white, 0.63% African American, 4.19% Native American, 0.80% Asian, 0.12% residents from the Pacific island area and 3.45% from others ethnic groups; 3.47% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 7.78% of the population.

Of the 25,205 households, 30.30% had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 54.20% were married couples living together, 10.00% were single mothers. 31.40% were not families. 25.30% were single households and 10.40% had someone living there who was 65 years of age or over. The average household size was 2.49 and the average family size was 2.95.

For the entire county, the population was composed of 25.80% of residents under 18 years of age, 8.60% between 18 and 24 years of age, 25.50% between 25 and 44 years of age, 25.20% between 45 and 64 years of age 14.90% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 100.10 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 97.30 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $ 31,537 , and the median income for a family was $ 38,171. Males had a median income of $ 32,052 versus $ 22,382 for females.
