The Williamson River is a river in southwestern Oregon, about 120 kilometers long . Together with its tributary Sprague River , it forms the main tributary of Upper Klamath Lake .
The Williamson River rises on the north slope of Fuego Mountain in central Klamath County . The source is about 40 miles northeast of the town of Klamath Falls . The river initially flows in a northerly direction through mountains and later through a rather flat landscape. The Williamson River and Sprague River converge near the town of Chiloquin , before flowing into Upper Klamath Lake at Modoc Point. The site is visible from US Highway 97 . The environmental organization The Nature Conservancy acquired part of the swampy land where the river flows. The organization designated the delta as a resting area for migratory birds .
In the agricultural valley north of Upper Klamath Lake, a trench irrigation system was created to irrigate the fields. These are fed with water from the Williamson River.
