The upper drainage basin of the Klamath River |
The Upper Klamath Lake (and Klamath Lake ) is a large natural freshwater lake east of the Cascade Range in southern Oregon , northwest of the town Klamath Falls , at the foot of Aspen Butte . It is the last remnant of the Pleistocene lake, Lake Modoc, and is now the largest freshwater reservoir in the Pacific Northwest . It is located on the edge of the semi-desert highlands Large Basin at an altitude of 1262 meters and is about 32 kilometers long and 12.9 kilometers wide.
Its main tributary is the Williamson River . The water flows into the Klamath River or, depending on the definition, the Link River in the south. To the north is a small canal towards Agency Lake . The Upper Klamath National Wildlife Refuge is also on the north bank .
The Bureau of Reclamation has been responsible for the lake since 1917 . The authority provides irrigation in the south as part of the Klamath Reclamation Project .
Green chip algae (AFA algae) are harvested in Klamath .
