Jefferson County is a county in the US state of Oregon in the United States of America with 21,720 inhabitants (as of 2010). The county seat is Madras . The county is named after Mount Jefferson .

The county had 19,009 people as of the 2000 census . There were 6,727 households and 5,166 families. The population density was 4 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 68.98% white, 0.26% African American, 15.68% Native American, 0.30% Asian, 0.22% residents from the Pacific island area and 11.32% from others ethnic groups; 3.23% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 17.74% of the population.
