Wasco County is a county in the state of Oregon in the United States with 23,791 residents. The county seat is in The Dalles .

history
The county was founded on January 11, 1854 and named after the Wasco people .
The county has a National Historic Landmark , the Historic Columbia River Highway . 31 structures and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of July 18, 2018).

The county had 23,791 people as of the 2000 census . There were 9,401 households and 6,505 families. The population density was 4 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 86.58% white, 0.30% African American, 3.81% Native American, 0.80% Asian, 0.50% residents from the Pacific island area and 5.65% from others ethnic groups; 2.36% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 9.31% of the population.
Of the 9,401 households, 30.20% had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 54.80% were married couples living together, 9.90% were single mothers. 30.80% were not families. 26.10% were single households and 11.50% had someone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 2.96 people.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 25.40% of residents under 18 years of age, 7.40% between 18 and 24 years of age, 25.20% between 25 and 44 years of age, 25.40% between 45 and 64 years of age 16.70% were 65 years of age or over. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 97.90 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 95.10 males.
The median income for a household in the 35,959 USD , and the median income for a family was 42,412 USD. Males had a median income of $ 36,051 versus $ 21,575 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,195. 12.90% of the population and 10.30% of families are below the poverty line. 17.70% of them were under 18 years of age and 7.30% were 65 years of age or older.
