The Dalles ( ) is a city in Wasco County in the US state of Oregon .
history
Lewis and Clark camped near Mill Creek during their expedition from October 25-27, 1805. The first mention of "Dalles" is in the 1814 book Narrative. The Dalles was also a stop on the Oregon Trail .
The Dalles received town charter in 1857. Today it is the most important economic center between Portland and Pendleton .
In 1984 the city was the victim of a bioterrorist attack by the Bhagwan sect . 751 people were infected with salmonella that the followers of the sect had spent in ten salad bars. This was the first attack of its kind in the United States.

The Dalles is located on the Columbia River and has the following road connections: Interstate 84 (West) and US Highway 30 , as well as on The Dalles Bridge leading US Highway 197 .

The Dalles is home to one of the world's largest data centers owned by Google.
