Columbia County is a county in the state of Oregon in the United States with 49,351 inhabitants (as of 2010). The county seat is in St. Helens . The county is named after the Columbia River .

The county was founded on January 16, 1854 and is named after the Columbia River .

As of the 2000 census , the county had 43,560 people. There were 16,375 households and 12,035 families. The population density was 26 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 94.42% white, 0.24% African American, 1.33% Native American, 0.59% Asian, 0.10% residents from the Pacific island area and 0.79% from others ethnic groups; 2.53% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 2.51% of the population.
Of the 16,375 households, 34.40% had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 60.50% were married couples living together, 8.70% were single mothers. 26.50% were not families. 21.10% were single households and 8.10% had someone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.65 and the average family size was 3.06.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 27.30% of residents under 18 years of age, 7.00% between 18 and 24 years of age, 28.10% between 25 and 44 years of age, and 26.00% between 45 and 64 years of age 11.60% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 100.00 males, for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 98.10 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 45,797 , and the median income for a family is $ 51,381. Males had a median income of $ 42,227 versus $ 27,216 for females. The per capita income was $ 20,078. 9.10% of the population and 6.70% of families are below the poverty line. 11.60% of these were under 18 years of age and 7.00% were 65 years of age or older.
