The canal bridge over the Stever led the old journey of the Dortmund-Ems Canal (DEK) in the north of Olfen over the Stever .

The bridge is one of three historic bridge structures on the old route of the Dortmund-Ems Canal. Further south, the DEK crosses Oststraße in Olfen with the Leaning Bridge and the Lippe with another canal bridge .

The canal overpass was designed in the style of historicism under the direction of the Royal Prussian Senior Building Director Karl Hinckeldeyn and executed in 1894. It is very similar to the other two bridges, as the faces of all three structures are made of Ruhr sandstone .

The Steverauen , a renatured local recreation area with semi-wild grazing Heck cattle and Konik horses, begin at the bridge and stretch as far as the Füchtelner Mühle .

The bridge trough and Alte Fahrt are no longer filled with water in this area. They were included in the hiking and biking trails around Olfen.
