Remote control center for water supply Datteln

The remote control center water supply (FZW) Datteln was put into operation in 1984. It is a device for maintaining the water level for the navigable Ruhr to Mülheim an der Ruhr , the Rhine-Herne Canal (RHK), the Wesel-Datteln Canal (WDK), the Datteln-Hamm Canal (DHK) and for the Dortmund- Ems Canal (DEK) up to and including Münster . Thanks to the central control, fluctuations in the water level in the individual channels and / or in the Lippe can be reacted to quickly. The water required to compensate for level fluctuations is taken from the Lippe at the Hamm feed structure , so that at least 10 m³ / s remain in the Lippe, or it is fetched from the Ruhr or Rhine by pumping back at the locks . If the flow rate of the Lippe near Hamm falls below 10 m³ / s, it is additionally enriched by water from the sewer network. The level fluctuations may only be within a range of ± 15 cm (sometimes even only ± 10 cm), since if the water level is too high, the ships run the risk of colliding with the bridges , or if the water level is too low, the canal floor can be damaged. All weirs, pumps, safety gates and other water supply systems in the above-mentioned sewer sections are operated centrally from the remote control center, while the locks are controlled from the respective control stands or control centers (e.g. Meiderich and the Ruhr locks from the Meiderich control center).

The FZW is manned all year round and 24 hours a day and therefore also the emergency reporting office of the WSA Duisburg-Meiderich.

The remote control center is part of the route of industrial culture .

In Waltrop , the Waterways and Shipping Directorate Münster (WSD) operates an exhibition hall and a visitor platform at the lock system at the Waltrop lock park of the Dortmund-Ems Canal with the help of the Waterways and Shipping Office Duisburg-Meiderich . The canal overcomes a height difference of 13.5 m, for which several lock structures have been built over time: the old ship lift from 1899, the shaft lock from 1917, the new ship lift from 1962, which has been closed since the end of 2005, and the new lock Henrichenburg from 1989.
