The Waterways and Shipping Office Braunschweig (WSA Braunschweig) was a waterways and shipping office in Germany. It belonged to the service area of the General Directorate for Waterways and Shipping (formerly Waterways and Shipping Directorate Center ) and was located in the Weststadt district of Braunschweig .
By merging the waterways and shipping authorities in Minden , Braunschweig and Uelzen , the new waterways and shipping authorities in the Mittelland Canal / Elbe Lateral Canal were merged on February 5, 2020 .
Area of responsibility
The Braunschweig Waterways and Shipping Office was responsible for the Mittelland Canal from Sachsenhagen to Wedesbüttel including the branch canals to Hanover-Linden , Hanover-Misburg , Hildesheim and Salzgitter as well as the connecting canal to the Leine from the Hanover-Linden canal to the Leine . Furthermore, the Leine from Hanover-Herrenhausen (km 22.7) to Neustadt am Rübenberge (km 68.0) and the Ihme including the Schnellen Graben belonged to the administrative area of the Braunschweig Waterways and Shipping Office .
Area of responsibility
The tasks of the Waterways and Shipping Office Braunschweig included:
- Maintenance of federal waterways in the official area
- Operation and maintenance of structures such as B. Locks and bridges
- Extension and new construction
- Maintenance and operation of the navigation signs
- Measurement of water levels
- Takeover of electricity and shipping police tasks.
Outskirts
The Braunschweig Waterways and Shipping Office included suburbs in Lohnde , Sehnde , Thune and the Hanover-Anderten building yard .
- The suburb of Lohnde was responsible for the Mittelland Canal from the border to the official area of the former Minden Waterways and Shipping Office at km 128.14 to km 167.0 in Hanover and the Hanover-Linden branch canal with the Linden port lock. The Leine, the Leineschleuse Neustadt, the Leine weir in Hanover-Herrenhausen and the connecting canal from the Hannover-Linden branch canal to the Leine with the Leine descent lock were also part of the area of responsibility. A small operating port was maintained in Lohnde for this purpose .
- The suburb of Sehnde was responsible for the Mittelland Canal from km 167.0 in Hanover to km 209.0 east of Peine with the Anderten lock (Hindenburg lock Anderten) and the Hildesheim branch channel with the Bolzum lock . The branch canal to Hanover-Misburg was also part of it.
- The Thune suburb was responsible for the Mittelland Canal from km 209.0 east of Peine to km 230.2 ( Wedelheine / Wedesbüttel) in the district of Gifhorn, about 3.5 km before the Elbe Lateral Canal joins the Mittelland Canal (border to the former waterways - and Shipping Office Uelzen ), as well as the Salzgitter branch canal with the Wedtlenstedt and Üfingen locks .
- The Hanover-Anderten building yard carried out maintenance and repair work on ships and facilities of the former Braunschweig Waterways and Shipping Office.
