The Rhine waterways and shipping office (WSA Rhine) is a waterways and shipping office in Germany. It belongs to the service area of the Directorate-General for Waterways and Shipping .
The Waterways and Shipping Office was created on January 30, 2020 by amalgamating the previous waterways and shipping offices in Bingen , Cologne and Duisburg-Rhine . The office has locations in Bingen , Cologne and Duisburg .
Area of responsibility
The fairway and Shipping Authority Rhein is responsible for the 370-kilometer long Rhine section between Mainz (km Rhein-493.5, where the jurisdiction borders on that of waterways and shipping office Upper Rhine ) and the German-Dutch border (Rhine-km 865.515 ) and the Rhine-Kleve shipping route .
Area of responsibility
The tasks of the Waterways and Shipping Office for the Rhine include:
- Maintenance of federal waterways in the official area
- Operation and maintenance of structures
- Operation of the district control centers in Oberwesel and Duisburg
- Extension and new construction
- Maintenance and operation of the navigation signs
- Measurement of water levels
- Takeover of electricity and shipping police tasks.

The Waterways and Shipping Office has locations in Bingen, Cologne and Duisburg. The Bingen location has suburbs in Wiesbaden , St. Goar , Koblenz and Brohl , the Cologne location in Niederkassel , Cologne and Neuss and the Duisburg location in Emmerich , Wesel and Duisburg.
District control centers
The Rhine waterways and shipping office maintains district headquarters in Oberwesel and Duisburg. The district headquarters operate, among other things, the nautical information radio (NIF) on the Rhine between the German-French and German-Dutch borders and on the Main to Hanau . The district headquarters in Oberwesel is also responsible for the light perception of shipping traffic on the narrow section of the Rhine between Oberwesel and St. Goar.
