The Uelzen Waterways and Shipping Office (WSA Uelzen) was a waterways and shipping office in Germany. It belonged to the service area of the General Directorate for Waterways and Shipping , formerly Waterways and Shipping Directorate Central .
The Uelzen Waterways and Shipping Office was the successor to the previous three new building offices in Lüneburg and Uelzen for the construction of the Elbe Lateral Canal from 1968 to 1976. It was founded on February 1, 1978. By merging the waterways and shipping authorities in Minden , Braunschweig and Uelzen, the new waterways and shipping authorities in the Mittelland Canal / Elbe Lateral Canal were merged on February 5, 2020 .
The Uelzen Waterways and Shipping Office operated two visitor platforms and an information center as part of its public relations work at the Lüneburg ship lift .
Area of responsibility
The Uelzen Waterways and Shipping Office was responsible for the federal waterways of the Elbe Lateral Canal and the eastern part of the Mittelland Canal from the Sülfeld lock on the Mittelland Canal at km 230.2 near Wolfsburg to the Magdeburg- Rothensee waterway intersection.
Area of responsibility
The tasks of the Uelzen Waterways and Shipping Office included:
- Maintenance of federal waterways in the official area
- Operation and maintenance of structures such as B. Locks and bridges
- Operation and maintenance of the Lüneburg ship lift
