The Brunsbüttel Waterways and Shipping Office (WSA Brunsbüttel) is a waterways and shipping office in Germany. It belongs to the service area of the General Directorate for Waterways and Shipping , formerly Waterways and Shipping Directorate North .
Area of responsibility
The Brunsbüttel Waterways and Shipping Office is responsible for the western part of the Kiel Canal (from / to canal kilometer 49.5 near Breiholz, a little west of Rendsburg) and the Gieselau Canal .

The tasks of the waterways and shipping authority in Brunsbüttel include:
- Maintenance, operation and expansion of the part of the Kiel Canal in the administrative area
- Maintenance and operation of the lock systems in Brunsbüttel and the Gieselau lock
- Construction of the 5th lock chamber in Brunsbüttel
- Operation of the ferries across the Kiel Canal in the official area
- Maintenance and operation of the floating and fixed sea marks in the official area
- Order and safety of shipping and operation of the traffic control center in Brunsbüttel
- Takeover of electricity and shipping police tasks
- technical operation of the bundling center for maritime traffic technology
Outskirts
The Brunsbüttel Waterways and Shipping Office includes the suburbs I in Brunsbüttel and II in Hochdonn as well as a building yard and the communications engineering department in Brunsbüttel.
- Outskirts I are responsible for navigating the Kiel Canal on the Elbe and the canal up to canal kilometer 10.0 ( Kudensee switch ).
- The suburb II is responsible for the Kiel Canal from canal kilometer 10.0 to canal kilometer 49.5 and the Gieselau Canal. The ferry stations across the Kiel Canal in the administrative area of the Brunsbüttel Waterways and Shipping Office and the Gieselau lock are assigned to the outskirts.
- The Brunsbüttel building yard is responsible for maintenance and repair work on ships and navigation marks of the Brunsbüttel Waterways and Shipping Office as well as the lock gates of the canal locks in Brunsbüttel.

Traffic control center
The Brunsbüttel Waterways and Shipping Office maintains a traffic control center from which shipping traffic on the Kiel Canal is monitored and directed 24 hours a day.
