history

The previous facility of the lock museum was located in the center of the large lock island and was later relocated to its current location directly at the canal marina and next to the lock on the grounds of the Brunsbüttel waterway and shipping authority. Here the history of the canal and lock construction of the Eider Canal and especially the Kiel Canal, which was inaugurated as the Kaiser Wilhelm Canal after its construction in 1914, is clearly presented.

description

Inside the building there are many landscape and valuable functional models depicting locks and bridges. Photos and paintings show details of the construction and the opening on June 21, 1895. There were also 5400 seats and 2000 standing places. Technical exhibits and ship models complement the exhibitions. Interesting information is provided on display boards and in video films. Historical exhibits on the construction and operation of the predecessor of the Kiel Canal, the Eider Canal, complete the exhibition. With the help of various ship models, the proportions of the bridges and locks are illustrated. Various maritime exhibits were exhibited outside.
