The Waterways and Shipping Office Neckar (WSA Neckar) is a waterways and shipping office in Germany. It belongs to the service area of the Directorate-General for Waterways and Shipping .
The office emerged in 2019 from the amalgamation of the previous waterways and shipping authorities in Stuttgart and Heidelberg and was the first new waterways and shipping department to be formed as part of the official reform.
Area of responsibility
The Neckar Waterways and Shipping Office is responsible for over 200 km of the Neckar federal waterway including its side canals from Mannheim (Neckar-km 4.60) to the Wernau / Plochingen municipal border .
The office has locations in Stuttgart and Heidelberg . Furthermore, the suburbs in Lauffen , Marbach , Stuttgart, Heidelberg, Eberbach and Bad Friedrichshall as well as the Heilbronn and Neckarsteinach building yards are subordinate to it.
The building yards have slipways with which ships of the Waterways and Shipping Office can be pulled out of the water for maintenance and repair work.
tasks
The tasks of the Waterways and Shipping Office include:
- Maintenance of federal waterways in the official area
- Operation and maintenance of structures, e.g. B. Locks , weirs and bridges (there are 27 barrages on the Necker )
- Extension and new construction
- Maintenance and operation of the navigation signs
- Acquisition and evaluation of water levels , runoff and environmentally relevant data (e.g. temperature)
- Takeover of electricity and shipping police tasks.
