Nautical information radio

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The nautical information radio in inland navigation radio (NIF) is a radio application of the mobile radio service or the mobile land radio service . It is used for communication between ships on inland waterways and the authorities responsible for operations on the waterways , for example the locks and the district control centers . The NIF regularly provides information on the condition of waterways, e.g. B. given the water levels or current lock closures and carried out the traffic advice and traffic control of the ships.

The NIF is carried out on the radio channels of the traffic group Nautical Information of the inland waterway radio . Only messages that relate to the protection of people or the journey or the safety of ships may be transmitted here. For example, emergency calls that can be made in inland waterway radio primarily on the ship-to-ship radio channel, which can be continuously monitored, should, if possible, also be made on the locally defined radio channel of the traffic group Nautical Information.

Deviating from the maximum permissible transmission power of the radio devices of 1 watt in inland waterway radio - as a typical means of communication for close range - nautical information may be transmitted with the transmission power of up to 25 watts customary in international maritime radio services on ultrashort waves (VHF) (exception Belgium and the Netherlands only 1 watt) to achieve a greater wireless range .
