As a municipal museum, the Hermann Grochtmann Museum in Datteln collects early historical finds and shows the history of the rural community as well as the recent industrial history of the mining and canal town. It has been converted for the VHS since November 2016 and is currently closed.

building

The museum is housed in the Dorfschultenhof, a typical Westphalian hall house with three aisles built in 1809. The Dorfschultenhof stands on the oldest farm property in Datteln and has been owned by the city since 1911.

history

As early as 1927, the first cultural-historical collections were kept in the Dorfschultenhof, which is now a listed building. In 1936 it became a municipal museum. In 1969 the farm was named after the senior teacher and local researcher Hermann Grochtmann .

In 1988 the museum was reopened with a new concept after several years of renovation. In cooperation with the women's history workshop , the museum developed, among other things, the tour of women's everyday life in inland navigation through the Datteln Canal Cross , with which it was included in the route of industrial culture.

  • Until the renovation, the finds from early history (Stone, Bronze and Iron Ages) were exhibited on the ground floor .
