The Schulweg-Steg is a pedestrian suspension bridge over the Datteln-Hamm Canal in the east of the city of Hamm . It is located in the immediate vicinity of the Werries lock at km 40.627 . Based on the model of the Kaiserbrücke ( Breslau ) and Chain Bridge ( Cologne ) suspension bridges , the structure made of riveted belts was planned and built between 1915 and 1917. Since the two ends of the straps are attached to stiffening beams, it is an anchored suspension bridge.

As part of the “ Hellweg - ein Lichtweg ” project, the light installation “hammer fenster / ante portas ” was launched in August 2007 (funded by the regional cultural policy of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia , sponsors of Volksbank Hamm eG and Kunstkreis Hamm e.V.) by the artist Kirsten Kaiser . The building is not permanently illuminated by the light art, but only when motion detectors detect that people are moving over. The two pillars have curtains made of light-emitting diodes so that they look like windows. In the walking area there are spotlights that emphasize the pylons.

The bridge has been a listed building since 1990 and is part of the Route of Industrial Culture .
