Seepark Lünen
The Seepark Lünen is a park landscape in Lünen .
The park was created as part of the State Horticultural Show in 1996 on a former mining area of the Prussian colliery . The Seepark Lünen site is located directly on the Datteln-Hamm Canal . Schwansbell Castle is on the other side of the canal . The park has an area of 63 hectares.
The center of the park is the Horstmarer See with a water surface of nine hectares. The southern part of the lake is designated as a nature reserve, while the north bank serves as a lido. In addition, a natural amphitheater with grass steps was built in the so-called Horstmarer Loch, a depression caused by mining. Together with the Preußenhalde , this shows the ups and downs of the landscape changed by mining .
In October 2007, the first disc golf facility in North Rhine-Westphalia was inaugurated in part of the Seepark and has since enriched the leisure offer.
The Seepark Lünen and the Preußenhalde are part of the Route of Industrial Culture .
Communist curve
Somewhat hidden in a depression in the Seepark there is a work of art worth seeing, the “Communist Curve”. Nine busts from the former Soviet Union have found a new home here instead of ending up in the furnace. Except for the easily recognizable bust of Lenin, all other persons depicted are unknown.
