The Horstmarer See is an approx. Nine hectare lake in the Lüner district of Horstmar north of Dortmund . It borders directly on the Datteln-Hamm Canal and is on the area of ​​the former Lünen State Horticultural Show . However, it is normally not fed by the Datteln-Hamm Canal, but there is an access that can be opened if too much water is lost; in the past, however, this was never necessary.

The lake emerged from a former mining area and agricultural area and was renatured or created in 1996 for the State Garden Show.
