The church in Flierich

Flierich is a village in the southeastern area of the municipality of Bönen and belongs to the Unna district. It is located south of Hamm , the hamlet of Hamm-Kump, and is located in the upper valley of the Seseke river, which drains to the Lippe near Lünen via Kamen . The name Flierich can be interpreted either as a "lilac hedge" or as a "settlement on the heights next to the marshy brook".

In addition to the old church Bönen , the place is probably the oldest part of the municipality Bönen; 850 it is mentioned in a manuscript as "villa Flethriki". After Flierich was part of the County of Mark, the place became part of the Rhynern office in the time after the French rule in Westphalia . During the regional reform, Flierich was incorporated into Bönen on January 1, 1968.

The village image is shaped by the building ensemble of the Evangelical Church from the late 12th century and the half-timbered houses on the church square.

The historic bakery

In the historic bakery , bread is baked in the wood oven on fixed dates. A small collection on the history of the village on the upper floor of the bakery presents objects from everyday life at the time as well as some documents. The Backhaus Flierich is part of the Route of Industrial Culture .

Every year in December, the Flierich Advent market with a bazaar and St. Nicholas takes place in front of the Flierich Backhaus .

The traditional maypole is set on April 30th .

The village first took part in the 1985 competition “ Our village should be more beautiful ” and won the bronze medal at the state level, the gold plaque in 1993 and the silver medal at the federal level.

There is an opportunity for cycling around Flierich. The place is connected to the A 2 and A 44 motorways as well as to the federal highway 63 from Hamm to Werl .
