Nicholas
Nikolaus is a male given name and a family name . The female equivalent is Nikole , Nikola or Nicole , Nicola .
etymology
Nikolaus, also Nicolaus , is of Greek origin. The word Nikoláos is made up of Nίkē for victory and Λάος (Láos) for people or people of war.
Nicholas was popular in the Middle Ages as the name of St. Nicholas , who was Bishop of Myra in Lycia in the 4th century . Numerous legends developed around him, the biographical contents of which were mixed with those of the abbot and later bishop of Pinora, Nicholas of Sion , who died in 564 . He was first venerated in the Eastern Church, then his cult also spread in the West. In the Middle Ages in Germany he was the patron saint of students and numerous classes. In the 20th century the short form Klaus was a common first name (and family name), currently the form Niklas is often used.
