As a male first name, Nino is the abbreviation of Giovanni ( in German: Johannes ) or Tonino and originally comes from Italy. In southern Italy it is also used as an abbreviation for Antonio or Antonino . In Germany, however, the name is also used as coming from Spanish: Niño means “child” or “boy” in German.
