Nino Matschaidse

Nino Matschaidze , Georgian ნინო მაჩაიძე , English transcription Nino Machaidze (born March 8, 1983 in Tbilisi , Georgian SSR ) is a Georgian opera singer with a soprano voice .

Life

Matschaidze received her vocal training at the Vano Sarajishvili Conservatory in Tbilisi. At the age of 17 she won her first singing competition in Georgia.

Between 2000 and 2005 she appeared several times at the Paliaschwili Theater in Tbilisi as Zerlina ( Don Giovanni ), Norina ( Don Pasquale ) and Gilda ( Rigoletto ). In 2005 she was accepted into the Academy for Young Opera Singers at La Scala in Milan . There she made her debut in 2006 as Najade in Ariadne auf Naxos under the direction of Jeffrey Tate . In the same year she won first prize at the Leyla Gencer Voice Competition in Istanbul . After appearances as Silvia in Mozart's Ascanio in Alba , the singer celebrated a success at Scala in February 2007 as Marie in Donizetti's La fille du régiment ; it marked the beginning of her international career. In Milan she also sang Lauretta in Puccini's Gianni Schicchi and Musette in La Bohème .

At the Salzburg Festival in 2008 she sang the role of Juliette in Charles Gounod's opera Roméo et Juliette instead of Anna Netrebko . In 2009 she appeared as Donna Fiorilla in Il turco in Italia at the Theater an der Wien . In June 2013 she was engaged again for the role of Juliette in Gounod's Romeo et Juliette , this time at the Vienna State Opera under the musical direction of Plácido Domingo .
