Nino Khurzidze ( Georgian ნინო ხურციძე ; born September 28, 1975 ; † April 22, 2018 in Tbilisi ) was a Georgian chess player . At the German Chess Federation and the World Chess Federation FIDE , your surname is written after the English transcription Khurtsidze . She has held the titles of Women's Grand Master (WGM) since 1993 and International Master (IM) since 1999.

Life

Khurzidze lived in the Georgian capital Tbilisi. She was trained by GM Konstantin Assejew . After she was diagnosed with cancer in 2017 , she succumbed to the consequences of the disease on April 22, 2018.

Khurzidze won the Georgian individual championship in 1998. She was able to win the Georgian women's individual championship five times, namely in 1989, 1993, 2005, 2006 and 2013. In 1998 she won the women's world championship of the FISU University Association in Rotterdam . In 1991 she won the U16 World Cup for girls in Guarapuava . In 1992 she was U20 European champion for girls in Hradec Králové and second at the U18 world championship for women in Duisburg . Her greatest success was winning the U20 World Junior Championship in 1993 in Kozhikode , which she was able to win again in 1995 in Halle (Saale) . In 1994 in Matinhos she finished second. In 2006 she won the International Hungarian Championship in Szeged . At the 2017 Women's World Chess Championship , she was only eliminated in the round of 16 against Antoaneta Stefanowa .

In 2007, she was in second place in the Georgian Elo ranking of women.

Team chess

National team

Nino Khurzidze participated with Georgia in the women's chess Olympiads in 1998 , 2000 , 2002 , 2006 and 2012 . She was most successful in 2000 when she took second place with the team and at the same time achieved both the best individual result on the third board and the third best rating of all participants. Churzidse took in 1997 at the World Team Cup and 2007, 2011 and 2013, at the World Team Championships for women in part. At the European Team Championships Women Churzidse took a total of seven times in part from 1999 to 2013. The best results were two second places with the team in 2005 and 2009 and a second place in the individual ranking on the fourth board in 2011 .

She won the European Women's Club Cup in 1996 with Merani Tbilisi , in 2001 with Agrouniversal Zemun and in 2006 with Mika Yerevan . 2006.
