André Schulz (* 1959 ) is a German journalist and author specializing in chess and computer chess . Since 2001 he has been editor-in-chief of the German-language news site at ChessBase .

Life

After graduating from Konrad-Adenauer-Gymnasium in Bonn in 1979 , he studied at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn from 1980 to 1986 .

Since 1991 he has been working for ChessBase, a German company based in Hamburg that develops and sells chess software and operates a chess database . In 1997 he became editor and in 2001 editor-in-chief of ChessBase's online news portal.

André Schulz is a member of the editorial team of ChessBase Magazine . In more than 15 years he wrote over 16,000 reports, contributions and articles. Since 2003, he hosted together with Oliver Reeh the TV ChessBase . He was part of the development team for the Deep Fritz chess software .

The chess expert published his book on 46 chess world championships from Steinitz to Carlsen in 2015 , which was also published in English in 2016.

He has been a member of the Godesberg Chess Club since 1976 and in 2004 had his highest level of play to date with a DWZ ( German rating ) of 2130 points.
