The Leipziger Strasse is a memorial area in the city of Weissenfels in Saxony-Anhalt . The street is recorded in the local monument register under registration number 094 11285.

General

There are many listed buildings on Leipziger Straße in Weißenfels, which is why the street has been declared a monument area. Some of the buildings are registered under their own registration number in the local monument register, others only belong to the monument area without their own registration number.

The building is called Am Saalestrand and was built in 1726 according to an inscription . There are two memorial plaques on the north wall of the building from the neighboring buildings that have already been demolished. Both memorial plaques are related to the Wars of Liberation and to the Prussian Field Marshal Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher . The Illig family opened a restaurant in this building in 1902 . The building was affected by the flooding of the Saale in 1994. On June 30, 2012, the last innkeeper of the Illig family retired and the restaurant was closed. On July 23, 2012 the Schultheiss restaurant burned down and the landlord there moved into the building. A year later the building was hit again by flooding in the Saale. Since the Saale beach was only intended as a temporary solution anyway, it returned to the market in October 2013. At times the building also contained a butcher shop.
