City Palace

The City Palace or Princely House is a listed building in the city of Weißenfels in Saxony-Anhalt . In the local register of monuments , the building is listed as a monument under registration number 094 11287 .

history

The city ​​palace , built in 1670 and at Leipzigerstraße 9 in Weißenfels, was built by the dukes August von Sachsen-Weißenfels and Johann Adolph I von Sachsen-Weißenfels . The building was built in the baroque style . It was mainly used as a guest house for distinguished guests of the ducal court. Later it housed a silk factory with a silk dyeing facility , and the outbuildings were converted for this purpose. After the restoration of the building, it was used for the exhibition of the musician Heinrich Schütz until 2003. After the completion of the Heinrich-Schütz-Haue , the exhibition moved to Nikolaistraße . The premises were then used by the city information and the upper rooms by the registry office. During the renovation of the town hall , the building is also the official residence of the mayor.
