Nino Tempo
Nino Tempo (born January 6, 1937 in Niagara Falls , New York ; actually Antonino LoTempio ) is an American pop and jazz musician and actor .
Live and act
Tempo learned the clarinet as a kid and tenor saxophone in high school. At the age of seven he appeared on television with Benny Goodman , later in films such as The Story of GI Joe (1945), Scandals (1945) and The Red Pony . He then worked as a studio musician and arranger for Frank Sinatra , Eydie Gormé , Steve Lawrence , or Maynard Ferguson , but continued to pursue his acting career with a supporting role as clarinet player Wilbur Schwartz in The Glenn Miller Story (1954) and other appearances in The Girl Can ' t Help It (1956). In 1958 he started a solo career as a musician. He recorded a first album, Rock & Roll Beach Party , which Liberty Records released; the single 15 Girl Friends was also released in 1958 by RCA Victor ; Ding-A-Ling followed in the next year .
In 1959 he wrote Teach Me Tiger , with which his sister April Stevens (actually Carol Lo Tempio ) had a hit. Together with his sister April Stevens, the saxophonist had a number one hit in the US singles charts with Deep Purple in 1963 . Her interpretation was awarded a Grammy in 1964.
Between 1962 and 1964 numerous former top hits from the 1920s and 1930s were re-recorded by Tempo and Stevens, some of the recordings made it to the US charts, including Whispering , initially a hit by Paul Whiteman in 1920. Less Successful were Stardust and Tea for Two , a hit for Marion Harris in 1925.
In the second half of the 1960s, Tempo and Stevens had two smaller hits with All Strung Out and I Can't Go On Livin 'Baby Without You . In 1973 the two hit the charts again with Put It Where You Want It .
In the same year Tempo had his first solo hit with Sister James . More singles followed in 1974, as did his second album Come See Me 'Round Midnight , but were not economically successful. His sister had another hit in 1974 with their joint composition Wake Up and Love Me , which was followed by the joint recording of You Turn Me On in 1975 , which made it into the easy-listening charts. In the same year he was involved in John Lennon's album Rock 'n' Roll . In 1979 Tempo played another single with Hooked on Young Stuff and also wrote three numbers for the soundtrack of The Idolmaker , which hit the charts in December 1980. After playing for Nesuhi Ertegün at the Trauuergottesdienst , he was rediscovered as a jazz saxophonist and recorded three albums for Atlantic Records : Tenor Saxophone (1990), Nino (1992) and Live at Cicada (1995).
