Johann Nikolaus Bach (composer)
Johann Nikolaus Bach (born October 10 . Jul / 20th October 1669 greg. In Eisenach , † 4. November 1753 in Jena ) was a German composer from the Bach family .
He was the son of the organist Johann Christoph Bach and was tutored by him. He attended the Eisenach Latin School . From 1690 he studied at the University of Jena and was a student of the Jena city organist Johann Magnus Knüpfer, a son of the Thomaskantor Sebastian Knüpfer . After a trip to Italy in 1696 he was his successor as organist at the city church and from 1719 at the same time university organist at the Kollegienkirche zu Jena .
Works
Johann Nikolaus Bach wrote two arrangements of the chorale Now you rejoice dear Christians G'mein and the Singspiel Der Jenaische Wein- und Bierrufer , the latter in the form of a Quodlibet about Jena student customs .
