variants
The first version was the AC-119G "Shadow" , which was developed in 1967 on the basis of the C-119G, powered by two double radial engines . This variant was intended for use as ground support “inland”. She was equipped on the port side of the central fuselage with a night observation device (NOS) as well as four multi- barreled minigun machine guns and an AN / AVQ-8 searchlight . 26 conversions were carried out.
The more advanced AC-119K "Stinger" for supply interruption in "field use" on the Ho Chi Minh Trail had additional capabilities, greater firepower and better sensors . The equipment included an AN / AAD-4 FLIR , a NOS, two six-barreled Vulcan guns , four minigun machine guns , an AN / APQ-133 search-and-follower radar and a searchlight. Here, too, 26 modifications were made.
During the Vietnam War , this model came to the 71st Special Operations Squadron in January 1969, but the AC-119G and AC-119K were used most often by the 17th and 18th Special Operations Squadron. In September 1971 and December 1972, the two models were taken out of service. The remaining aircraft were transferred to the South Vietnamese Air Force .
