Occurrence in Germany

In the first half of the 20th century the name Niklas was rare in Germany. Its popularity increased steadily from the late 1960s onwards. From the mid-1990s until the first few years of the new millennium, the name was one of the ten most frequently given first names for boys, and in 2001 it was even number one in the frequency statistics. Since then, its popularity has decreased slightly.
