Niklas Eklund

Niklas Eklund (* 1969 in Gothenburg ) is a Swedish trumpeter .

Career

Niklas Eklund first studied music at the University of Gothenburg . Further studies followed with Edward H. Tarr at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis . This was followed by an engagement with the Basel Radio Symphony Orchestra. Eklund has specialized in various trumpets, he plays both the baroque trumpet and the piccolo trumpet . In modern music he can be heard on the cornet .

In 1996 he won first prize at the International Altenburg Competition in Bad Säckingen .

Since then he has appeared in various baroque ensembles , including the London Baroque , the English Baroque Soloists , and Les Violons du Roy ( Québec - Canada ). Eklund made music together with Reinhard Goebel , Gustav Leonhardt and Sir John Eliot Gardiner as well as other representatives of historical performance practice .

In the world of modern instruments he has worked with many important musicians and conductors of our time, such as: B. Cecilia Bartoli , Zubin Mehta , Heinz Holliger , Adam Taubitz , András Schiff , and Ivan Fisher.

As a specialist in the baroque trumpet, he combines unusual interpretive skills with unexpected precision and control. Christopher Martin, first trumpeter of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, believes Niklas Eklund's "Art of the Baroque Trumpet" CD series on Naxos shows "a ravishing, lyrical performance that can hardly be found anywhere else".
