Niklas Holzberg
Niklas Holzberg (born June 24, 1946 in Dillingen an der Donau ) is a German classical philologist .
After studying classical philology, he was awarded the dissertation “Menander. Investigations on Dramatic Technique ”at the University of Erlangen and habilitated there in 1979. In 1982 he received the advancement award of the city of Nuremberg . From 1983 until his retirement in 2011 he was a professor at the University of Munich (since 1988 C3 professor). His main research interests are ancient narrative prose and erotic poetry.
Works
His best-known publication is the treatise The Ancient Roman (1st edition 1986, 2nd edition 2001, 3rd edition 2006), which was translated into English in 1995, Dutch in 1998, Polish in 2003 and Slovenian in 2004. His biographies on the Roman poets Ovid , Virgil and Horace also attracted attention .
