Patrik Niklas-Salminen (born March 5, 1997 in Tampere ) is a Finnish tennis player .

Career

Niklas-Salminen played on the ITF Junior Tour until 2015, where he took part in three of the four Grand Slam tournaments . At Wimbledon he made it to the semi-finals, where he lost to Mikael Ymer . His best result is a combined 20th place.

As early as 2013 he competed in professional tournaments, initially on the third-class ITF Future Tour . In his second appearance on the higher-class ATP Challenger Tour , he reached the final with Harri Heliövaara at his home tournament in Tampere in 2015 . They lost the game against André Ghem / Tristan Lamasine in two sets each in a tie-break . A year later he made his debut for the Finnish Davis Cup team in the game against Denmark . With Jarkko Nieminen he lost the doubles game. In the following years Niklas-Salminen played more tournaments of the Future Tour again, only in 2018 in Tampere he was again in a Challenger semi-finals. He won seven of his total of 13 double titles on the Future Tour this year and was in the world rankings in doubles in 255th place, his previous career high. In singles he won his only title to date in 2018 and was about to make the top 400. In the 2017 and 2018 seasons he played for Suchsdorfer SV in the 2nd Bundesliga tennis .

In spring 2019 he won two more doubles titles on the Future Tour before winning his first title on the Challenger Tour in November. In Playford City he prevailed with Heliövaara in doubles against the top seeded duo Ruben Gonzales and Evan King in three sets. Two weeks later he failed with Heliövaara in the semifinals of the tournament in Helsinki to the eventual winners Frederik Nielsen and Tim Pütz .
