Nicholas V (Ratibor-Jägerndorf)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nikolaus V. von Jägerndorf (also: Nikolaus II. Von Troppau-Ratibor ; Czech: Mikuláš V. Krnovský ; * around 1409 , † 1452 ) was Duke of (Troppau) -Ratibor , Jägerndorf , Freudenthal and Rybnik . He came from the Troppau-Ratibor family of the Troppauer Přemyslids .

Life

His parents were John II "the Iron" and Helene of Lithuania, a niece of the Polish king Władysław II Jagiełło .

Although Nikolaus and his younger brother Wenzel von Ratibor were presumably of legal age when their father died in 1424, their mother Helene von Lithuania probably took over the rule of their inheritance until 1428. In addition, until 1449 she was titled as Mistress von Pless , which was probably assigned to her as a personal property. Nikolaus and his brother Wenzel ruled over the inherited territories together until 1437. When it was divided in 1437, Nikolaus V. received Jägerndorf, Freudenthal , Rybnik , Pleß and Bauerwitz , while Wenzel became Duke of Ratibor.

After a Hussite army, moving into the Waag valley, devastated the Ratibor region in 1433 and handed it over to the Opole duke Bolko V , who was a supporter of the Hussites, Nicholas V recaptured it. In 1436 Nicholas V took away his land from Duke Wenzel II, a protector of the Leobschütz , whereupon the latter kept himself harmless with the occupation of Sohrau . In 1437 an agreement was reached.

In 1443 Nikolaus V fought together with Wilhelm von Troppau , Primislaus II von Teschen and Heinrich IX. von Glogau the robber baronage .

After Nicholas' death in 1452, his sons Johann IV and Wenzel inherited the territories, but did not divide them until 1464. Johann received Jägerndorf and Loslau , while Wenzel Rybnik, Pleß and Sohrau fell.

family

Nicholas V married Margarethe Clemm von Ellguth around 1435. Children came from marriage

In his second marriage, Nicholas V married the Krakow patrician daughter Barbara Rockenberg († 1464) in 1451. Since her step-sons Johann IV and Wenzel von Rybnik were not of legal age when their father died in 1452, she was regent of Ratibor, Jägerndorf, Freudenthal and Rybnik from 1452 to 1464. From 1452 to 1462 she was also mistress of Pless , which was probably due to her as a treasure.

Individual evidence

  1. When counting the II. Only the Troppau-Ratibor family branch is taken into account, whereby Nikolaus IV. (Ratibor-Freudenthal) would then be the I.
