Nicholas IV (Ratibor-Freudenthal)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nikolaus IV. Von Freudenthal (also: Nikolaus IV. Von Ratibor and Freudenthal , also Nikolaus I. von Troppau-Ratibor ; Czech: Mikuláš IV. Z Bruntálu ; * around 1370 ; † around 1406 ) was together with his brother Johann II. " the Iron “ , Duke of Ratibor and Freudenthal . He came from the Troppau-Ratibor line of the Troppau Přemyslids .

Life

His parents were Johann I von Troppau-Ratibor and Anna, a daughter of Duke Heinrich V von Glogau-Sagan († 1369). His father had inherited the Duchy of Ratibor as the sole heir in 1365 and thus became the progenitor of the Opava-Ratibor line of the Opava Přemyslids.

When his father died in 1380/82, Nicholas IV was not yet of legal age. His older brother Johann II "the Iron" inherited Ratibor and Jägerndorf as well as Freudenthal, from which a part was spun off around 1385 for Nicholas IV.

Nikolaus died around 1406 unmarried and without descendants. His share of Freudenthal went to his brother Johann II, who now also owned the entire Duchy of Freudenthal.
