Hugo Weczerka

Hugo Weczerka (* 1930 in Cajvana , Bukowina ) is a German historian , editor, and non-fiction and specialist book author .

Life

Hugo Weczerka published the first treatise on the Bukowina Germans in 1954 in the series of publications of the Göttingen working group . Hugo Weczerka was at in May 1956 Hamburg University with a thesis on the medieval and early modern Germans in Moldavia until his downfall from its origins (13th-17th century) to the doctor of philosophy doctorate . From 1963 he was a corresponding member and from 1974 a full employee of the Johann Gottfried Herder Research Council .

From 1967 Hugo Weczerka worked at the Herder Institute in Marburg an der Lahn with a research focus on history and historical geography . From 1969 he was editor of the journal Zeitschrift für Ostmitteleuropa-Forschung (ZfO) and from 1969 to 1982 its editor . In succession to Roderich Schmidts , he was director of the Herder Institute from April 1990 until his retirement in 1995. He is a member of the Historical Commission for Silesia .

He is a long-term corresponding member of the board of trustees at the Institute for Comparative Urban History (IStG) of the Westphalian Wilhelms University (WWU) in Münster .
